Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions about our dance classes in Buffalo, NY.
I’ve never danced before. Will I be behind in class?
No. Most of our classes are designed specifically for adult beginners.
If you think you “don’t have rhythm,” have “two left feet,” or “can’t dance,” then our studio is just right for you!
SPECIAL NOTE: Any classes NOT made for beginners will include “for intermediate dancers” or “some dance experience required” in the description.

I already feel stressed by how busy I am. Is it worth it to add something else to my calendar?
Yes! At House of Hips, we believe that dance class should relieve your stress, not add to it. We strive to create a comfortable and welcoming space where you can relax, be yourself, and connect with a community of people who understand your feelings. We sometimes joke that our dance classes are 50% therapy, but it’s true! If you’re having ”a day” stop by the studio, vent it out, and let us help you breathe & get back on track.
What clothes should I wear to class?
Wear something comfortable that you can move in. Workout gear or yoga clothes work great!
SPECIAL NOTE: You do not need to show your belly during belly dance class, or remove any clothes during burlesque class. Some specialty workshops will suggest a particular dress code or theme (lingerie, 80s, goth, etc), but this is just a suggestion, not a requirement.

What shoes should I wear to dance class?
We usually dance barefoot or in socks. Dance shoes, half-soles, etc are also acceptable.
SPECIAL NOTE: Some classes, such as cheer or heels, may suggest (or require) a certain type of shoe. In this case, please wear non-street shoes as to avoid any dirt/debris/moisture on our floors.
